everyone who lived in djerba was a lotus-eater. lotus was cooked three times a day by waking locals who made about $13.5 an hour. it was served on porcelain plates and in red solo cups, sometimes out of food trucks. because of the sleep-inducing but strictly non-psychoactive effects of the lotus, we slept through most things.
